AG Spotlight

Since being elected in 2010, Guam Attorney General Lenny Rapadas has accomplished much in a short time in office. His most significant achievement to date is setting the parameters within which the Guam legislature can work regarding the U.S. Constitution, the Guam Organic Act, and the separation of powers. He issued several opinions early in his term that drew that line for the legislature.

Attorney General Rapadas began his legal career as an assistant attorney general (AAG) in the Prosecution Division of the Attorney General’s Office. As an AAG, he prosecuted thefts, robberies, DUIs, government corruption, white collar cases, assault and aggravated murder cases. He started in the Misdemeanor Unit and was quickly assigned as a major felony prosecutor. He has also served as the Violent Crime Unit leader and as a chief prosecutor.

In 2003, Rapadas was appointed by the president as the U.S. Attorney for Guam and Mariana Islands where he served until June 2010.

As a career prosecutor, Attorney General Rapadas has had to understand very quickly the functions and importance of the other divisions within the AG office. He has invested more time working with the AG staff in the Child Support Enforcement, Civil Litigation and Family Divisions.

When he is not in the office, Attorney General Rapadas enjoys going to the gym. He participates in a circuit training program where many of the trainees use P90X just to warm up. However, he admits he is not at that stage yet. Two of his favorite activities are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Zumba (his self-proclaimed guilty pleasure).
