Iowa Attorney General Sues Drug Firms
DES MOINES, IOWA - Drug companies inflated prices of prescription drugs by millions of dollars causing state and federal governments to overpay for medicine prescribed for Medicaid recipients, a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Tom Miller on Tuesday alleged. Full Article
Maine: AG Files Complaint Against Lender
NEW YORK (Reuters) - AUGUSTA, MAINE - Maine's attorney general has filed a lawsuit against a South Portland mortgage lender charging the company and two employees with engaging in unfair and deceptive practices. Attorney General Steve Rowe filed the complaint against Downeast Mortgage Corp., Commercial Street Capital LLC, James Lindvall, who is a principal in both companies, and loan officer Catherine Campbell. In Parking-Pinched Jersey City, Four Judges Are Suspected of Fixing Tickets
JERSEY CITY, Oct. 9 — Four of the city’s 10 municipal court judges — including the former chief judge — are being investigated by the New Jersey attorney general’s office on suspicion of fixing parking tickets for friends or family, and in at least one case for a colleague on the bench, officials here say.
During the past month, the chief judge has resigned and the three other judges have taken leaves of absence. In addition, the chief justice of the State Supreme Court, Stuart J. Rabner, has assigned the day-to-day operations of the court to a Superior Court judge from Hudson County.
Lesbian couple asks R.I. high court for split
PROVIDENCE (AP) — A lesbian couple married in Massachusetts should have the same right as heterosexual couples to divorce in their home state of Rhode Island, lawyers for the women told the state's highest court Tuesday. Attorney General Patrick Lynch earlier this year issued a non-binding advisory opinion saying the state would recognize same-sex marriages performed in Massachusetts. Full Article
All eyes on Calif. climate-change fight
SAN FRANCISCO — Make big-rig trucks more aerodynamic. Allow docked ships to shut off engines and plug into electrical outlets. Require oil-change technicians to check tire pressure. Those measures and six more that California regulators will consider this month are among early actions in what will be a long, fiercely debated and politically perilous battle against global warming.
