>> NAAG RECOGNIZES 40^TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FAIR HOUSING ACT DURING NATIONAL FAIR HOUSING MONTH This year marks the 40th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act --- the landmark legislation signed into law on April 11, 1968 that prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of housing based on race, color, national origin, sex, (and as amended) disability or family status. >> THIRTY-NINE ATTORNEYS GENERAL IN SUPPORT OF PATIENT SAFETY AND ABUSE PREVENTION ACT OF 2007 (S. 1577, H.R. 3078) Forty-one Attorneys General and three state authorities that house Medicaid Fraud Control Units signed a letter to members of Congress in support of the Patient Safety and Abuse Prevention Act of 2007 (S. 1577, H.R. 3078), which would establish a system of screening and national criminal history background checks for prospective workers in nursing homes and other long-term care programs. February 12, 2008

>> FIFTY-ONE ATTORNEYS GENERAL EXPRESS SUPPORT FOR SENATE BILL 1027 Fifty-one Attorneys General signed a letter to members of United States Senate to express support for Senate Bill 1027, the �Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act of 2007� (PACT Act), currently pending in the Senate. >> NATION’S ATTORNEYS GENERAL ANNOUNCE NATIONWIDE AGREEMENT WITH MYSPACE REGARDING SOCIAL NETWORKING SAFETY In a victory for social networking safety, 50 Attorneys General today announced that MySpace has agreed to significant steps to better protect children on its web site, including creation of a broad-based task force to explore and develop age and identity verification technology. >> THIRTY-SIX ATTORNEYS GENERAL SETTLE WITH GUIDANT Thirty-six Attorneys General reached a settlement with Guidant Corporation, a manufacturer of Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs). The settlement was part of an enforcement action brought by the Attorneys General due to concerns with the sale of a particular model, the Ventak Prizm 2 DR Model 1861 (Prizm), that did not work properly. September 6, 2007

>> ATTORNEYS GENERAL ANNOUNCE SETTLEMENT WITH AMERICA ONLINE REGARDING CANCELLATION ISSUES Forty-nine Attorneys General today announced a $3,000,000 settlement with AOL, one of the nation�s largest Internet service providers, requiring the company to make significant changes in honoring consumer cancellation requests and further ordering refunds for consumers. >> ATTORNEYS GENERAL PRAISE BEAM GLOBAL FOR ADOPTING STRONGER VOLUNTARY ADVERTISING STANDARD Recent studies confirm the correlation between alcohol advertising and underage drinking. While advertising is only one of the factors that contribute to underage drinking, the importance of reducing youth exposure to alcohol advertising is magnified given that youth who begin drinking before age 15 are four times as likely to develop alcohol dependence after age 21. May 8, 2007

>> NAAG YOUTH ACCESS TO ALCOHOL COMMITTEE CO-CHAIRS PREPARED TO ANSWER THE SURGEON GENERAL�S CALL TO AC After attending a special briefing by the Surgeon General on the Call to Action, Attorney General Rowe said, �Attorneys General know first hand the devastating effects of youth drinking and we�ve been working within our states and nationally to try to address the problem. Unfortunately, too many people in this country do not fully understand the health implications of youth drinking. This is why the Surgeon General�s Call to Action is so important � he�s the country�s top physician and he�s warning the public that underage drinking is a serious pediatric health crisis that needs immediate attention.� March 7, 2007
