Online Privacy, Prescription Pill Epidemic, and U.S. Supreme Court Cases Lead the Attorneys General DC Meeting Agenda
February 25, 2013
Washington, DC---Online privacy, the prescription pill epidemic, and U.S. Supreme Court cases are leading the state and federal legal issues to be discussed today through Wednesday at the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) annual Washington, DC meeting. Forty-four state and territorial attorneys general are attending, and special guest federal speakers include Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder on Tuesday morning.
The meeting theme is “Privacy in the Digital Age: Aligning Governmental and Citizen Interests,” to correspond with NAAG President and Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler’s yearlong presidential initiative focusing on online privacy.
“I will moderate a panel discussion Tuesday morning exploring the challenge balancing governmental interests in collecting and sharing online users’ data with individual privacy concerns,” Attorney General Gansler said. “Protecting our constituents requires us to look at our own actions when it comes to online privacy as much as it requires looking outward. I am certain the discussion will generate some very helpful ideas.”
The NAAG meeting at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on 22nd Street, N.W. runs from 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25 until noon Wednesday, Feb. 27. To read the agenda and see video of the meeting sessions, go to the NAAG website, www.naag.org.
