Reflection, Compassion and Courage: Attorneys General Remember September 11
September 11, 2007
It is with much sadness that our nation commemorates the sixth anniversary of the tragic events of September 11. As members of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) join the nation in remembrance and mourning of the lives lost in Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York, these events have strengthened our resolve to work with local, state and federal law enforcement to protect the health, safety and welfare of all Americans.
As the chief legal officers of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories and commonwealths, Attorneys General are serving daily as advocates for crime victims through crime prevention and victim assistance programs; protecting consumers from fraudulent charitable solicitations and other scams; enforcing antitrust statutes that ensure fair and competitive practices in the marketplace; arresting online predators who prey on children; preserving the environment and protecting the civil rights of all people.
Throughout this difficult period, we remember the victims and their families, and salute the police, fire and rescue personnel and other members of the law enforcement community who risked their lives, and in some cases, gave their lives, to help others.
Their courage and sacrifice stand as an example for us all.
