This seminar is recommended for staff attorneys/managers who are charged generally and specifically with civil rights enforcement duties whether in the affirmative or litigation vein from the attorney general offices and/or their states human rights commissions. The seminar will provide participants with the opportunity to stay abreast of developing and ongoing issues, as well as enhance the communication and networking ability of the civil rights contacts in the Attorney General offices. Topics will include speaker and interactive panel discussions on: the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act (“CRIPA”), Human Trafficking, and the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). Additionally, an Ethics session will explore how states handle the potential conflict of interest in issues involving state agencies where government lawyers may be on both sides. The seminar faculty members will include members of the state attorney general offices, members from federal agencies including U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Labor, U.S. Housing and Urban Development, among others.
