Ohio Aims New Muni Offering At Retail Investor
It's getting easier for individual investors to buy municipal bonds. On Monday, Ohio is expected to issue $30 million of municipal bonds aimed at retail investors. Unlike traditional muni-bond offerings, these bonds will be distributed through a larger network of brokers and will be available for sale for longer than is customary in the industry. We want retail investors to have access to Ohio bonds in the primary market," in part, because they tend to be buy-and-hold investors, says Kurt Kauffman, state debt manager for Ohio's Office of Budget and Management. Calif. Judge Blocks Rule on Sex Offenders
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 8 -- A federal judge on Wednesday blocked enforcement of key provisions of a ballot measure designed to crack down on sex offenders, ruling the law was unconstitutional just a day after voters overwhelmingly approved it. Jessica's Law, as it is known, prohibits registered sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a school or park, effectively banning parolees from many California communities. It also requires lifetime satellite tracking for some paroled sex criminals upon their release from prison. Full Article
