The Attorney General’s Office is seeking to hire a Student Loan Advocate Attorney to work in the Attorney General’s Insurance & Financial Services Division.  The Division provides consumer assistance and enforces laws regarding insurance, investment, and lending issues, and has a focus on postsecondary educational debt, including student loan servicing and debt collection.

Position Type:  Full-Time/Exempt.  Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions.

Salary:  $74,900

Responsibilities

Student Loan Advocate Attorneys engage in consumer advocacy, legal research, and investigation regarding consumer financial services issues, with a special focus on student loan and debt, in addition to other lending, insurance, and investment matters.  The Attorneys assist consumers in navigating federal student loan repayment and debt relief opportunities, mediate consumer complaints, work on student loan and other financial services policy issues, participate in outreach and education initiatives, and help more experienced Assistant Attorneys General with the investigation/litigation of consumer protection matters, legal research, and the implementation of settlements.

Qualifications

JD from an accredited law school.  Applicants with an excellent work ethic who are motivated to work in the public interest are encouraged to apply.  Applicants must be highly motivated, intellectually curious, and able to quickly learn new and complicated subject areas.  Attentiveness to detail is a must.  Familiarity with financial products, student loans, or the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act is helpful.  Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.  Applicants must be comfortable working autonomously, but also as part of a team.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve and an interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
